About this Module: This a blended e- learning course is designed to a 3rd year Medical laboratory sciences students equip with all the necessary knowledge attitude, and skills on Immunology and serology. This module enable you to deals with the basic concepts of the components and functions of the immune system; associated disorders, principles and procedures of immunological and serological techniques required to perform Immunological and serological tests for the diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases. |

Objective of the module is to enable you to: - Know the Components of the immune system - Understand Physiology of key lymphoid organs - Understand Antigen Processing and presentation to T-lymphocytes. - Understand Maturation, Activation, and Regulation of Lymphocytes - Know effector mechanisms of immune responses - Understand the disorders the immune system - Understand principles and techniques of vaccinations - Perform immunologic marker typing on Immune cells - Know and perform common serological tests for parasitic, bacterial and viral infections. - Apply basic principles of serological and Immunological techniques for the diagnosis of parasitic, bacterial and viral infections - Apply safety precaution in serology and immunology laboratory - Perform specific and non-specific tests for syphilis as per the standard operating procedure -Perform infectious mononucleosis; rheumatoid factor and acute phase protein tests according to procedure - Practice HIV test and hepatitis tests by applying appropriate algorithms - Properly interpret, report and document laboratory test results |

The teaching-learning methods in this module include self-directed online learning activities, face-to-face sessions, and discussions forum. During the self-directed online activities, you must complete all of the given online learning activities at your own pace and within the time frame specified, as preparation for face-to-face sessions. In the discussion forum sessions, you will have the opportunity to collaborate and learn with other students. You must participate in the discussion forum to answer the given questions and/or collaboratively solve a problem. |

The face-to-face sessions are devoted to the discussion of complex concepts, questions and answers, and/or the practice of some important skills (if any).To ensure that you get the most out of this course, you must devote at least 10 hours per week (6 hours for self-directed online activities, 2 hour for collaborative learning, and 2 hour for face-to-face sessions) for approximately 20 weeks. |

At the end of the module, there will be a summative assessment to determine whether or not the learning objectives were met. · This assessment consists of a written knowledge test (70) · Your participation in the discussion forum and the quality of your responses to the discussion questions (10%), and ·
